Age Intervention Eyelash

The US FDA requested US Marshals to seize more than 12,600 applicator tubes of Age Intervention Eyelash as it may lead to decreased vision. Age Intervention Eyelash is sold and distributed by Jan Marini Skin Research, Inc., of San Jose, CA. The FDA considers Age Intervention Eyelash to be an unapproved and misbranded drug because Jan Marini Skin Research has promoted the product to increase eyelash growth.

The FDA also considers the seized Age Intervention Eyelash to be an adulterated cosmetic. The product contains bimatoprost, an active ingredient in an FDA approved drug to treat elevated intraocular pressure. For patients using the prescription drug, using the Age Intervention Eyelash in addition to the drug may increase the risk of optic nerve damage because the extra dose of bimatoprost may decrease the prescription drug's effectiveness.

Damage to the optic nerve may lead to decreased vision and possibly blindness. In addition, use of Age Intervention Eyelash may cause other adverse effects in certain people due to the bimatoprost, including macular edema and uveitis, which may lead to decreased vision.

I purchased this product from a local spa over a year ago, but I did not use it much for many months. This past summer I decided to start using it regularly, in an attempt to increase the length and volume of my lashes. Since I began using the product I had noticed that my vision was often blurred - particularly when I was attempting to see something close up. This was mostly intermittent, so I decided to attribute the symptoms to my being "middle age" (I'm 45). One time during the summer I also had a period where my eyelids swelled and were inflamed, and the portion nearest to the lashes became very red and kind of scaly feeling - and my eyes itched. I once again thought that this was not something serious, and that perhaps this was due to the fact that I had been in the sun and swimming. But just last week I had a really bad "reaction", which caused my eyes to once again swell up - this time severely. They also became extremely inflamed and scaly looking, and even my eyes themselves were affected, turning very red and bloodshot. My eyes also itched incessantly, and many of my eyelashes fell out (I now have several "bald" spaces on my eyelids). I wasn't sure what the problem was or what had caused my eyes to react that way, but because they were so bad I immediately discontinued the use of my Jan Marini eyelash product, and my eyes seem to have been healing this past two weeks.
