Washington, DC: It is interesting to note the plaudits surrounding a new posting program sponsored by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which is an online listing of drugs under scrutiny for safety risk. Well, good on the FDA and the new federal law that requires it. However, the proud rollout begs a reminder that the FDA knew 6 years ago about the risk for Avandia heart attack from the popular drug for Type 2 diabetes. In the last year Avandia and heart attack have left thousands of diabetics living in fear. And still, there has been no Avandia recall.

It is feared that in every state, including California, it will rob proud, and well-meaning seniors from their life savings. Financial elder abuse law can help save a senior from potential financial ruin, so long as there is a friend, a family member or an advocate to step up and put a stop to it.

The resulting publicity and public disgust over one of the most celebrated criminal law cases of all time seemed to have no end.

Some women have died. So far, the bill to settle Ortho Evra birth control patch claims is at $68 million and climbing.

Atlanta, GA: Civil rights law exists to protect every American, regardless of race, creed or religion. Or gender, for that matter. In what is considered a landmark civil and human rights case in the State of Georgia, a transgender politician won her case against two disgruntled opponents who claimed Michelle Bruce's transgender status muddied the political waters and misled voters. Bruce counters that it is a victory for civil human rights.

Ottawa, ON: Although the jury is still out on the level of danger for Botox paralysis, it was announced this week that Health Canada has approved updated warnings for Botox, and Botox Cosmetic (Botox injections for wrinkles) after a number of adverse reaction reports, that included Botox death.

Boston, MA: A class-action lawsuit against the nation's largest retailer alleging overtime pay and other violations—decertified two years ago— is back on the rails, and Wal-Mart employees in the State of Massachusetts couldn't be happier. The case highlights overtime pay laws and other employee rights, and holds that an overtime pay rule, indeed any regulatory guideline in place to uphold the rights of workers, should be protected.
