"I think this is one of the most serious [lawsuits] because of the degree that people have to suffer to have the implant removed, and the recuperation that they have to undergo for a couple of years," a lawyer representing a victim told the news source.
Hillary Berthelet, one of the patients affected by the defect, said she had a hip implant three years ago but knew almost right away that something wasn't right.
"At a certain part of the motion of my leg, the joint would…clunk. There is no other word. It would clunk," she told the news provider.
According to The New York Times, the FDA says that since the beginning of 2008, it has received approximately 400 complaints involving US patients who received the device.
