LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION
Rochester City
On September 2, 2002, two Rochester police officers were responding to a call involving a Sudan refugee. Christofar Atak had been drinking and jumped in front of a police car. During a struggle, one of the officers pulled the trigger of his .40 caliber handgun, but thought it was his Taser gun. Atak was shot in the back and still requires surgery to remove bullet fragments left near his spine. The police department has apologized for the accidental shooting and the city has awarded Atak a $900,000 settlement. (Oct-21-05)
