Jackson County, GA

Jackson County, GA: (May-03-07) Former Jackson County manager Crandall Jones was terminated from service without any specific reason. The action came after three of the five commissioners voted to fire him. One commissioner voted against the action and another abstained from voting. Jones alleged that the move was racially motivated in part and was the result of the board of commissioners' failure to recognize the manager/commissioner form of government. In a settlement reached with the Jackson County Board of Commission, it was agreed that Jones would receive a $350,000 employment settlement as severance pay. Jones' employment contract only called for him to receive six months severance pay, an amount that would have totaled only around $45,000. As part of the deal, Jones agreed not to file a lawsuit against the commissioners over his dismissal. [MAIL STREET NEWS: COUNTY MANAGER]
