Fired District Attorney
Spring Valley, CA: (Oct-04-07) Tom Harron, former Otay Water District attorney, brought charges against the district, alleging that he was wrongfully fired in 2001 from the job he had held for nine years. Harron filed suit in San Diego Superior Court after he was fired in January 2001. Sources claim that at the time, the district struggled with employee dissension and legal problems. As part of a settlement reached, the water district agreed to pay Harron $372,000 plus retirement benefits. The district also paid $300,000 for Harron's attorney fees. The settlement also included an apology from the district. Records show that six other workers fired in early 2001 reached a $371,000 settlement in April 2007. Tom Harron now works as a deputy county counsel.
