Principal Alters Student's Grades
Springfield, MA: (Mar-26-08) Quaboag Regional Middle/High School brought a lawsuit against principal C. Stephen Collins, alleging that he altered the grades for a friend's daughter, who needed an additional half-credit to graduate. Collins repeatedly denied the allegations, while claiming he was forced to resign from his post at the school. Records show that a group called Quaboag Partners for Progress, fought for Collins' reinstatement, and removal of former Superintendent Carol C. Jacobs. Jacobs declined to discuss the situation publicly. Following Collins' resignation, he threatened to sue the school, claiming breach of contract and defamation.
Sources familiar with the negotiations stated that as part of a settlement reached, the Quaboag Regional School Committee agreed to a $35,000 payout to Collins. Collins also sought a public apology from the School Committee, but it was not granted. Under the terms of the deal, he will not to work with that district again.
