Settlements and Verdicts Body Armor Manufacturer Settles with the Justice Department for $30 million
Armor Holdings, makers of bulletproof vests that contained defective zylon, will pay the US government $30 million as compensation.
Federal, state and municipal law enforcement agencies bought the vests and were partially reimbursed by the Justice Department, under the bulletproof vest program. However, the zylon used in the vests degraded quickly, and were deemed unsuitable for use according to the Justice Department.
A larger investigation into the use of zylon in the body armor industry is currently underway, and another 3 'participants' have already settled with the government for more than $16 million.
