$2M Asbestos Mesothelioma Settlement Awarded

This is a settlement for the Asbestos Mesothelioma lawsuit.

Washington, DC: A $2 million settlement has been awarded in an asbestos mesothelioma lawsuit brought on behalf of the now deceased Mr. Hannibal Saldibar.

Saldibar, a tile setter from New Haven, CT, passed away in January 2010. On May 22, 2012, the jury hearing his case found that the Tile Council was aware that their products contained asbestos. Although the Tile Council is a trade association, and not responsible for making the mortar that contained the asbestos that killed Mr. Saldibar, the court determined that the Council had the oversight of the product and control over the manufacture of dry set mortar, and that the Council promoted the products as Tile Council products. Further, the court determined that the formulas used to make the asbestos-containing products were held as confidential by the Council, and therefore workers such as Saldibar, had no way of knowing that the products contained asbestos, and that the dust created by these products was essentially toxic.
