Paris Hilton’s Bad Hair Day Could Cost Her $3.5 Million

We’ve all had bad hair days—but Paris Hilton, in her usual fashion, has managed to take it to a whole new level. She is reportedly being sued (yes, hard to believe, I know) for wearing the wrong hair extensions. In fact, she’s being sued for breach of contract. And the company wants damages 10 times the amount of the contract…ummm 

The suit, and I have not read it personally so caveat emptor, claims that Paris wore a competitor’s hair extensions in 2008, presumably out to an event, instead of those made by Hairtech International Inc. They apparently manufacture a line of hair extensions called “DreamCatchers,” (‘bad dream’-catchers might have been more appropriate) that Paris agreed to front beginning in 2007. The suit also claims that Paris missed a launch party for a new product in 2007 because she was in jail. 

FYI, you can see Paris and the—er, her—DreamCatcher hair extensions on the DreamCatcher website. Yes, hard feelings aside, according to the website, it’s not just Paris lending her face to DreamCatchers—it’s “DreamCatchers by Paris Hilton”—which begs the question, did Paris design these herself? But I digress.

The lawsuit apparently states: “Paris Hilton is an individual celebrity who committed fraud and deceit as well as breaching all agreements by failing to abide by the law, failing to do appearances, failing to wear the Plaintiff’s hair extensions or otherwise fulfil her end of the agreements despite being paid in excess of approximately US$3,500,000 in licensing and endorsement fees.” For that kind of money you could at least show up. I’d show up…I’m available…I will wear any kind of hair extensions necessary for that kind of money—hello…? 

Having said that, I do think that being in jail would provide some serious obstacles to showing up for cocktails. You may remember the story, Paris served time in the infamous Lynwood correctional facility in LA, rehab alternative of choice for 20-something celebutantes—Lyndsay Lohan, among others, after being sent down for twice being caught driving on a suspended licence while on probation for reckless driving.

And, to that point, the British Tabloid—The Daily Mail—is reporting that Hairtech “Also says that Hilton’s party-filled lifestyle goes against its marketing campaign.” Well, what planet were they living on when they signed her up? 

According to a report on News.com.ca out of Australia “The haircare company alleges Hilton violated her terms of agreement in representing “Dream Catcher Hair Extension Product” with her “chemical abuse, illicit drug use, alcohol abuse as well as other (illegal) debaucheries. (What type of debaucheries are legal?)

In any event, the whole thing feels a bit like a CIA black ops story—in that we’ll never really know what happened between these two parties, despite all the media coverage. The one thing that does stand out though is the fact that Haritech is ‘seeking’ $35 million from the hotel heiress in damages, claiming that’s the amount of revenue they lost over this whole sorry mess. Oh—and the return of the $3.5 million fee.

I can’t help wondering who the bigger opportunist is here.
