Charleston, WV: An asbestos-related lawsuit filed recently has named 61 companies as defendants. The two co-executrixes of the estate of Nelson Eugene Walker filed on behalf of Mr. Walker’s estate. Walker was diagnosed with asbestos mesothelioma in July 2009 and died from complications related to the illness on November 23, 2009, not quite four months after his diagnosis.
Debra L. Church and Carol J. Boyd, the executrixes, allege that Mr. Walker was exposed to asbestos-containing products during the course of his work for the various companies. The defendants are being sued for negligence, contaminated buildings, breach of expressed/implied warranty, strict liability, intentional tort, conspiracy, misrepresentations and post-sale duty to warn, according to the suit.

Jefferson County, TX: Twelve companies are facing an asbestos-related lawsuit brought by Augustine Aranda, who was recently diagnosed with malignant asbestos-related disease. Mr. Aranda had worked as an electrician, repairman and laborer and during the course of his various jobs he was exposed to asbestos-containing products. Specifically, Mr. Aranda alleges that he became exposed to asbestos fibers during his work at the Gulfport Shipyard in Port Arthur from 1965 until 1967 and at the Atlantic Richfield Refinery from 1967 until 1979.
As a result of his illness, Mr. Aranda has experienced physical pain, suffering, mental anguish, disfigurement and physical impairment; incurred medical costs; and will incur future medical bills, the suit states. In addition, his wife, Patsy Jean Aranda, says she lost her husband’s household services.

Niwot, CO: Niwot High School has been closed for the third consecutive day, as crews try to remove asbestos fibers from the air in a part of the school undergoing remodelling. Classes have been temporarily cancelled. About 1,280 students attend the school. According to a report from the Associated Press, air quality tests indicate “asbestos fibers remain in the air in a corridor near the girls’ locker room, but not anywhere else at the school.” (SkyHiDailynews.com)
London, England: Malcolm McLaren, legendary impresario of the 1980s Punk Rock band the Sex Pistols, has died of asbestos mesothelioma. McLaren, was just 64 years old when he died April 7th, in a Swiss clinic.McLaren’s partner of 12 years, Young Kim, told the Independent that McLaren likely exposed himself to asbestos back in the 1970s when he was remodeling his renowned clothing shop on King’s Road in London.
