Cucumbers from a North Carolina vegetable and fruit distributor have been recalled by the company after some of the vegetables were found contaminated with salmonella. The cucumbers were delivered to nine states and were harvested in south Florida on March 29.
According to the distributor, L&M Companies, Inc., of Raleigh, N.C., only one lot of about 1,600 cartons of cucumbers distributed to wholesalers is affected, with 139 of the cartons distributed in Illinois and 30 distributed in Indiana. About 5,000 pounds of cucumbers are contained in these 169 cartons, said spokeswoman Lee Anne Oxford.
Because L&M may have sold the cucumbers to various retailers or restaurants, it was not disclosing the wholesale distributors of the cucumbers.
Most of the cucumbers were distributed in Florida and Mississippi, and Illinois and Indiana. The bulk cucumbers were also sold to wholesalers in New York, Tennessee, Nebraska, Wyoming and Texas. The bulk cartons are marked Nature's Delight and have lot number PL-RID-002990.
