Drywall imported from China has sparked a massive number of defective drywall lawsuits in the South with close to 150 cases being filed in Mississippi alone.
The drywall, which was designed to be used in home construction, has been reportedly blamed for causing health problems among homeowners.
Similar incidents have also occurred in homes in other states that include Florida, Virginia and Texas. One organization, dubbed the Chinese Drywall Complaint Center, was created to assist homeowners in getting information about the issue.

Mississippi defective product lawyers have said that, next to Florida and Louisiana, their state has the highest incidence of homes being built with the toxic drywall. This fact is allegedly based on the amount of construction and home repairs that occurred after Hurricane Katrina.
According to Business Week, a federal judge announced that the first trial concerning this issue will be held in January.
