"Lee Memorial operates as if (they are) employees at will and that is not how public employment works. You can't be fired without due process," claims Laney's attorney William Amlong in a statement to the Naples News. "Obviously there have been terminations from that place. There isn't a system in place that provides them with their constitutionally required due process."
A release from Lee Memorial states that Laney was released from duty due to insubordination, poor judgment, hostilities with co-workers and ignoring department policies regarding patient safety.
The case has grown to include other employees that were denied their grievance processes over the past four years and seeks to reinstate them.
