Couple complains of food poisoning on Royal Caribbean Cruise

Miami, FlFor many couples a European cruise is a romantic way to reconnect with one's significant other in a relaxed and often luxurious setting, but for one couple their trip aboard the MS Independence of the Sea was anything but, as they both succumbed to foodborne illness within days of departure.

span itemprop="image" itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/ImageObject" style="display:block">Setting sail in June for a two-week luxury cruise holiday meant to celebrate the wife's 50th birthday, the couple began noticing issues with the temperature of their food almost immediately, sending back plates of cold dinner on their very first night.

Over the next several days, the couple continued to see cold meals, curdled milk and irregular yogurt, before finally succumbing to food poisoning two days before the ship returned to port.
The couple is currently bringing suit against their travel agent.

"Travel agents have a duty to ensure they are sending customers on holidays where the highest hygiene and food safety standards are being maintained," says the couple's solicitor on Socruise.com.

Food poisoning is a potentially fatal condition that results from the ingestion of toxic substances, bacteria or parasites through contaminated food items and typically produces feelings of nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea in sufferers.
