There have been many reports concerning Paxil sexual dysfunction and how it affects both sexes causing symptoms such as decreased libido, erectile dysfunction and genital sensory impairment.
However, a new study has found another possible Paxil side effect, with a focus on pregnant women.
The study examined data from approximately 57,000 pregnancies and deliveries at Aarhus University Hospital in Skejby, Denmark, and found antidepressants may cause a woman to deliver early and adversely affect a baby's health, Reuters reports.
Paxil was one of the antidepressants studied by lead author Dr Najaaraq Lund and it was found that women who took antidepressants experienced Paxil side effects that caused them to deliver their babies five days earlier than their predicted due date.
Some of the babies who were delivered early were reportedly more likely to be admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit, and showed signs of withdrawal and respiratory problems.
It's been reported that 1 in 10 pregnant women are put on antidepressants since studies indicate that depression can negatively affect a woman's health during pregnancy.
