PFAS Health Risks Lawsuits

Individuals, cities and states across the U.S. are filing PFAS chemical contamination lawsuits against 3M, Dupont and several other chemical manufacturers, alleging chemical pollution in soil, groundwater and drinking water. PFAS are a group of man-made chemicals that includes PFOA, PFOS, GenX, and many other chemicals. And PFAS are all-pervasive: they are found in fish, animals, and humans. Because PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) can accumulate in human bodies over time, they are also called the “forever chemical” and “the new asbestos”.

Fire Fighterer Car Fire FoamThere are nearly 5,000 different types of PFAS, according to the FDA. Many PFAS are resistant to grease, oil, water, and heat, and this is why PFAS have been used in a variety of applications since the 1940s. They were used in stain- and water-resistant fabrics and carpeting, cleaning products, paints, and fire-fighting foams. The FDA authorized certain PFAS for limited use in cookware, food packaging, and food processing equipment.

PFAS Studies and Regulations

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have both conducted studies and concluded that these chemicals are highly toxic and hazardous to the environment and human health. According to the CDC , PFAS increases the likelihood that communities around PFAS manufacturing, or facilities using PFAS containing chemicals, are likely to be adversely impacted.  A 2007 study  by the CDC estimated that PFAS chemicals could be detected in the blood of 98 percent of the US population.

The CDC, The National Center for Environmental and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry have all labeled human exposure to PFAS as a public health concern.

The Environmental Working Group reports that more than 1,500 drinking water systems serving nearly 110 million Americans may be contaminated with the chemicals. According to CNN, the Department of Defense has identified at least 400 active or closed military installations or bases with potential PFOS or PFOA and the Pentagon has identified at least 36 military installations where drinking water levels of PFOS and PFOA exceeded the EPA's health advisory.

PFAS Serious Health Conditions

Some of these PFAS have been more widely used and studied than others. According to the FDA, science surrounding potential health effects of PFAS is “developing” but evidence suggests it may cause serious health conditions.

Studies in humans exposed to PFAS have shown that these chemicals can:
  • Increase cancer risks, especially testicular and kidney cancers
  • Increase cholesterol
  • Affect immune system functions
  • Disrupt the body’s natural hormonal levels
  • Decrease fertility
  • Cause liver damage
  • Cause thyroid disease
  • Affect infants and children’s growth, learning abilities, and behavior

PFAS Lawsuits

A recent class action lawsuit is potentially open to any U.S. individuals who claim to have injuries from PFAS exposure and if the chemical has been detected in their blood. One proposed class action filed in Ohio federal court could include every person in the U.S. because PFAS is believed to be present in most everyone.  And a federal court in South Carolina is overseeing federal multidistrict litigation involving hundreds of plaintiffs who also claim they have been exposed to PFAS.

PFAS Firefighters Class Action Lawsuit

Three firefighters from New York State in May 2020 filed a class action lawsuit
on behalf of all firefighters in the U.S. against 28 companies involved in varying degrees with the manufacture and sale of aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF). Thomas J. Gentile, Tommy McGarry, and Charles O’Keefe filed suit in US District Court for the Eastern District of New York. Gentile developed testicular cancer; McGarry suffers from chronic fatigue, heart disease, and high cholesterol.

In addition to individual lawsuits, many states and municipal governments have filed environmental lawsuits against the chemical manufacturers, accusing them of polluting water and soil, fish and animals, and causing serious health issues in human beings. As well, the chemical manufacturers are accused of concealing and misleading the public by promoting slightly altered chemical varieties as safe alternatives, and 3M “knowingly and willfully” disposed of those chemicals that allowed them to enter the water supply.

PFAS Banned in Two States, Firefighters Still Wearing Carcinogenic Gear
PFAS Banned in Two States, Firefighters Still Wearing Carcinogenic Gear
October 2, 2024
When firefighters wear their personal protective equipment made with known PFAS chemicals, they are going beyond the call of duty. Firefighters signed up to fight fires, but they didn’t sign up to die from the carcinogenic gear they wear. PFAS health risks have been known for decades, so why can’t the federal government ban PFAS firefighting gear? READ MORE

Phasing Out PFAS in Firefighter Gear
Phasing Out PFAS in Firefighter Gear
August 23, 2024
As of January 2025, manufacturers and retailers of personal protective equipment containing poly- and perfluoroalkyl (PFAS) chemicals, known as “forever chemicals”, must give the purchaser written notice that it contains the chemicals, along with a reason why they are being used in the product. And by 2027, sellers and manufacturers of firefighters’ personal protective equipment will no longer be allowed to knowingly sell gear that contains “intentionally-added PFAS.”  READ MORE

July 15, 2024
Chemical companies making PFAS, also known as ‘forever chemicals” are advised to “do what you can, while you can, before you get sued”, but the battle has already begun for some manufacturers. For instance, 3M agreed to pay water utilities nationwide at least $10 billion for cleanup costs and at least thirty state attorneys general have also sued PFAS makers for widespread contamination. If you aren’t familiar with the extent of PFAS damages, a recent New York Times article is an eye-opener, to say the least, and the fallout will likely feed into PFAS litigation. READ MORE

Now in my 94th year, during Vietnam I had TWO in-house Military Inspectors that mentioned "Forever Chemicals" (like PFAS) from Stewart AFB that went into a stream supplying Newburgh, NY drinking water and yet my lawyer's files show the NY AG said: "Don't mention it"!! Later, an Oncologist at Sloan Kettering (SK) for 30 years, said: "Your water machines avoid the pain and suffering from cancer operations"!! This is because my Patent Applications for 5 US and 13 Int Patents show I increased the Hydrogen Bond Angle in ordinary water from 104.5 to 114 degrees!! SK also sent me a letter not to mention Oncologists that call me, yet they told David Rockefeller (supplied SK land/funding) who told my father (one of the few people allowed to use his private elevator to the top of Chase Bank), who told my brother Richard Ellis (well known in commercial real estate) who had over one million square feet under lease in the WTC on 9/11 and handled 27 Rockefeller buildings. SK gave me cancer when I was ten years old using a radium tipped rod for sinus trouble and yet it was the FDA who sent out one million letters (also to Air Force and submariners for sudden changes in Air Pressure that cause inner ear problems): "Go see a doctor you may have cancer!"... saving my life!! With one Billion more people than the US, the CCP sent a 10 page contract (Regulators can look at) for 15 million machines (supplying land and buildings in 7 locations) if I will also produce them in China).
For $720. a Business Bureau (revealed by an AG in CT) will give you an A+ Rating while ignoring HOME WATER DISTILLERS THAT CAUSE CANCER by CONCENTRATING "Forever Chemicals"!! Distillers were used for 1000 years to concentrate ingredients to make tinctures BEFORE "Forever Chemicals"!
1000's of Home Distillers are sold every day: If a distiller has a heater in the BOTTOM of a tank, it will VAPORIZE the "Forever Chemicals" and concentrate them in the condenser! A random study showed 98% of the people had "Forever Chemicals" in their Blood... also from products used daily! Accordingly, my patents show I put the Boiler on the OUTSIDE of the tank, so water is SKIMMED OFF THE SURFACE and then heated and cooled back and forth (from Boiler to Tank) several times/minute using TWO HEATERS and thermostats (NOT ONE) until a unique frequency is reached that causes the Bond Angle to change.
Go to JohnEllis.com and watch the longer 27 minute Video where a man bought a Laboratory to show how unique frequencies can be picked up at great distances from the water while the healing power of ordinary water drops to "ZERO"!
Certainly, with the info supplied above, there are enough sources with deep pockets to help these Cancer victims!
Thank you! John Ellis

I have thyroid disease which was caused by being around PFAS for a long long time. My risk of cancer is thru the roof because of exposure to these chemicals. what should I do? How do I get tested. The only way to make the FDA do its job and to put fear into manufactures of faulty products is to fight them. I am in if I qualify
