Aaron's Furniture and Appliance Leasing Consumer Fraud Lawsuit Filed


Atlanta, GA: A consumer fraud class action lawsuit has been filed against Aaron' Inc, alleging that the furniture leasing company breached its lease agreements by refusing to provide pay-off information to consumers and through other improper practices.

Aaron' has 1,900 stores through which it leases furniture, appliances, and electronics to consumers. The lawsuit alleges that after a certain number of payments have been successfully completed, Aaron's claims the consumer will own the items.

The lawsuit claims that Aaron's employs unfair business practices, false advertising, and misrepresentations to induce customers to enter lease agreements that are not as favorable for the consumer as represented. The lawsuit also claims unjust enrichment.

Aaron's stole money from me too sold me damaged appliances washing machine and dryer had me in a club I payed my appliances off I was still in the club for repairs paying them every month so my washing machine stop working and my dryer i reported it to Aaron's since I was in their club for insurance on my appliances they kept telling me lies they will send someone to repair them for months they deceived me no one never showed up they just told me someone will pick it up this Monday on the 30th of October no one ever came they are scammers they kept robbing my debit card I'm on a fixed income they keep closing stores and opening new stores relocating im going to sue them for stealing from me and lying to keep me in the club I told them on Halloween to remove my card from their auto pay they need to be shut down they have so many reviews how they con people smdh

We bought several items from Aaron’s located in Victorville, Ca on Hesperia Rd and Bear Valley Blvd during the late 80’s through the end of the 90’s.
From time to ti we were hassled about not paying on time, by just a matter of a few weeks approximately. At times they even came to our home.strong arming us for the payment. We had young children and even purchased game consoles to give them Christmas gifts. Just as an example
Aaron’s would threaten to remove the items from our stable home. Even though we were charged enormously for the items we wanted the best we could give our family.

I purchased a AC on May 2023 so i have had it little more then a month. I went in with a promotion that was $20 and walk out the door. I went in to take advantage of this promotion. The sales person informed me they now had a $1 promotion going on. I was lead to believe it was for a month then will start my payments. I ask the rep if i could make 2 payments starting in June one on 5th and 20th. He said yes I then asked if I had a issue with 2 payments could I make the payment on the 20th. Today is June 20th 2023 that I am posting this comment. On the 4th I called and said I would make the full payment on the 20th I was told I HAD to make a payment on the 5th. On the 5th I received 3 calls and a knock at my door by Arrons rep. To date I have received 21 phone calls and knock at my door. The Manger informed me it's my problem that the rep mis informed me on the $1 down that was only for 2 weeks not a month. That I was told that if I couldn't do 2 payments then 20th was good. He told me I just needed to call and let them know. The manager told me that I not only owed $157.00 but $287 because I would be 2 months behind. She told me make a payment of $287 are put it on the curbside. Well I certainly wouldn't set on the curb for someone to take for starters. The manager has been very rude and no way would she even discuss anything but $287 are AC on the curb. I called corporate office on the 16th and told them what was going on at this location. I told them the amount of calls and the misleading information I was given. I received a reference number to have it looked at. I called the local office with reference number and told them do not call me until corporate contacts me. Still received calls even at 7pm in the evening. Today is the June 20th as my contact says payment of $76 is due. I am very upset on how a company can treat people in this kind of way. I had rented from this company before a AC and made my payments I couldn't make the payment so I returned the AC was not forced to I did because I couldn't pay. The Manger at that time in 2021 was wonderful working with me. I am very upset that only 22 days into getting this AC I received 21 calls and knock at my door. A manager that is like a police with hand cuffs waiting to arrest me attitude with threats. I have been fighting breast cancer since November 2021. I also have PTSD and panic and anxiety disorder. Not asking for sympathy in away I have not even brought this up to corporate are the local office. But this has caused me alot of unwarranted stress. If I had $287 I could purchase a AC and not $1,100 for the same AC I am renting to own. That's what's so bad about this company taking advantage of people that their opinions are rent to own. I can't afford $350 for a AC but can afford a payment in my situation fighting cancer. How many others that are honest and doing all they can to survive have to be treated this way. I live in Texas and have support pets that can not tolerate heat. I can open up windows and run a fan and tolerate the heat. But my 2 amazing support dogs can not so my AC is not my luxury its for my dogs. One more thing the Manger called me the day after I took the AC with me. She called me the next day telling me I needed to come in and sign a paper saying I took the AC with me. I was out of town and couldn't do it. Is this why all this is going on because the rep not only mislead me but also didn't complete the contract? I am honestly wanting to just give them the AC but now they pushed me to a point where it's a mission. No honest people should have to go though horrible experience like this. I know there are alot of dishonest people who take advantage of this rent to own experience. That's a risk they take in this buissness but they make thier money. Charging triple what the product is worth after 2 payments on my AC in a retail value it's paid for. It's the honest people that pay for the one's that steal and had no intentions of paying for the product. They offer a insurance I personally have heard the stories of using the insurance saying the product was stolen when it was not. Insurance pays Arrons is happy and the dishonest are happy. Looking though all civil suits against Arrons they broke 2 in my case. As long as no one speaks up they will continue to conduct a dishonest way of offering rent to own though rose colored glasses.

I rented a TV from Aarons in 2014. I was in the process of moving and asked them to pick up the TV, pick up was confirmed by the store manager. The TV was not returned to the store, my fault for assuming that it was. Now fast foward to 2019, a collection agency out of Mesa AZ has started garnishment on my paychecks. Now 2022 I have paid a total of 5000.00 dollars plus, the collecton agency J&H Systems LLC An Arizona Non Profit (yes non profit) will not relesase from the debt claiming that I still owe over 2000.00 dollars for attorney fees and interest. I cannot get them to send me an itemized list of what th original debt was and where the 5000.00 dollars have gone towards. I have submitted paper work to the courts several times in a timely manner in response to the abrasive garnishment tactics they employ all to no avail as a new judgement has been once again been approved by the courts. I am a single parent living in one of the most expensive rental cities in California because my employer is here. My rent is almost near 2000.00 dollars, this garnishment has created an inmense hardship for my children and myself. I cannot find anyone to assist me in this matter. I am not trying to get out of this scott free, I do think that the 5000.00 that has been garnished shoud be sufficient pay and punishment for a 500.00 Dollar possibly less TV in 2014. If anyone can offer me information or recourse please, I'd like to hear from you. Thank you

I know they over charge for items compare to stores and there rates are ridiculous and doesn't show nothing on your credit report like they claim they do they just lie.

My experience with this company has been a nightmare. The Los Lunas NM store has a rude spiteful manager, do not do business with them. Go to another company.
I too was not told if my lease pay offs or given leases for some of my accounts that I paid off.
But what can we do?
Recently they used my bank card without authorization, I felt violated it was a weird experience. I called my bank ordered a new card, closed my account, and blocked them. I decided I don’t need strangers knowing my bank card information.

I leased a 14" HP modern laptop from Aarons and I didn't ever get a contract. So about a month later I asked Danny the store manager for a contract. When I got it I was in shock. I leased the laptop in July
of 2020 it is April 2022 and I still have 4 months left to pay on it. I will pay 1688,00 for the laptop. They charged me for Microsoft 365 170 dollars didn't even know I had it and they charged me 40 dollars for internet security 40.00 the cost of lease is higher than the actual laptop. What happen is why now I am upset is I just thought that well I don't have credit that is what I have to pay. No because my daughter needed a laptop I was gonna give her my old one I had 4 months left to pay on and I ordered me a new one. Same HP laptop except this one was 15" and low and behold I only have to pay 12 months and will only pay 844.00 so looks like the first laptop I paid double for. No microsoft either and the security was only 3.49. wow what a difference. I believe what happen a class action lawsuit was filed on them and so they had to quit charging so much for the laptop. I called Danny the store manager and asked him to see if he would explain why I paid so much for the first one and not the second one. He said he didn't sell me the first computer. Well I cannot prove who sold me either oen because the contracts one sign simply manager and the other one general manager so something sneaky must be going on. I am not paying a dime more until someone explains to me why I paid double for the same laptop in 2020 and not in 2022. I am 71 and disabled and I am frighten and getting more worried. All different men have called and left voice mail after voice maile after voice mail. They sound really intimidating. Now they are coming to my apartment. This morning I bet they knocked on my apt door for 30 mins they were so loud that I heard the neighbors opening their doors to see what was going on. I was afraid they were going to kick the door in. I read online that they do this type of thing. I cannot let them bully me even though I am disabled and live alone. Both contracts are not signed by them I wonder if that makes the contracts void. I cannot go to the person who sold me the laptops if I wanted to.

I leased a recliner from Aaron's over the phone, I was told that it would have to be on their easy pay program which I didn't have a problem, so my payment was set up to be deducted from my checking account every month on the third of the month and they have, around six months later I added an all in one hp computer to that same account (easy pay plan) and every month on the third one payment was deducted from my account that was for the recliner and the pc, and my bank statement always read "Aaron's easy pay" and stated that it was for the recliner and pc, and this went great for months, in fact I never went in the store and we didn't have any reason to call each other until about two months ago when a piece under the recliner broke off, the piece the returned the back to an up right position when I stood up, so now sometimes I could sit back and the back go straight back and would never return like it was supposed to, I always and to fight to get out of it, then go behind it and push the back up, so I called Aaron's and explained to them and I was told. Someone would be out to look at it and either fix it or swap it out, no one showed, I ended up calling several different times and hearing all kinds of excuses, and it's never been resolved BUT that's not the biggest problem... On the third of this month I noticed that they only took out a payment for the pc and I figured the recliner wad payed off, then two weeks later without receiving any phone calls or visits from them, two Aaron employees stopped by to "get the recliner for nonpayment" I that it was some kind of joke at first but then I was put on the phone with the manager and she told me that it wasn't set up on the easy pay, which I know is a flat out lie because I got it first and was told that I had to put it on their easy pay plan, while my head is spinning trying to figure out what's going on, then I told the guy that I'd grap the broken part so it could be fixed while they had it which I still didn't understand, the money was in the bank if they took it out like they had been for over a year now, and the employee said that I didn't have to get the part because they probably wouldn't be fixing it.. Then it dawned on me that I only had 3 payments before it was paid off, so now I don't know what to do, they've took out the payments for both for over a year then when the recliner is there payments from being paid off, they're made it able to break my agreement and turn. Around and lease it out to someone else and make double off it than they normally do, but they just think they do, because that could have happened at a worse time and here's why, the reason I got the recliner in the first place was that my wife of 20 years had just left and she wanted the recliner we already had, which was fine, ALSO I'm disabled and can very rarely sleep in the bed, and the bed felt massive and empty with her gone so I started sleeping in my new recliner from Aaron's, that is until they just picked it up, which just happened to be by some sick joke by God, the very day before I went to court for the divorce to be finalized, which I didn't want it to begin with, she did, so within 24 hours they picked up the chair with some bullcrap story screwing me out of owning it with three payments left, and the place I slept, and the divorce was finalized from the woman I love, so I have no idea what to do now, my head is spinning tjryin to figure it out, but I do know what I'm doing about part of it, I still have the computer and because of the divorce I now have a new debit card, that Aaron's do not have, and won't, because that happens at the worst time in my life and after a few days to think about it, I know that I will not tolerate gredy idiots like that and yes they knew I had only got the chair because of her leaving,, that's why I told them I needed it when I called in and ordered it, so I guess how ill despence a little karma is by accepting the fact that just traded a pc for a recliner, any suggestions?

I purchased a queen mattress set in October 2020. Three months same as cash. Paying of this month in dec. call arrons to find out my balance. 1399. Ask why it so high. Both reps could not or wouldn’t tell me when I made the purchase in October. Rep Monica gave me three months same as cash made two payments 500. And 100, in November. This month I plan on paying my three month agreement. At the point of purchase. Monica refused to give me a copy of contract. Or loan number. So I coukd pay on line. This happened twice when I paid. Nothing is available on line with out a contract number I called corporate. Todd made a few calls to me but we just couldn’t connect

I've dealt with Aaron's locations for years. This is the first time that I've had a problem to this extent. As a person under poverty we continually get punished because we do not find a means of income to make us as equal as corporations or business owners of this nature. This message is not to put them down but to help educate that we all human beings. All of us matter sometimes it takes an extreme punishment to realize how much we are equal. You called them according to the contract as you sign they hold you accountable but there's very little legal help to hold them accountable for breach of contract. The policy states in all of them that they are to deliver and pick up the equipment merchandise etc. How do you force them to pick it up when they make excuses about covid I don't have any employees or any trucks but yet they want to punish you because you're evicted or anything because of covid after you just paid rent to somebody in three to five days they give you an eviction notice and they want to hold me accountable to be there to go in and get their equipment when I've been set on the street. To this day I still pray that they don't ever have to walk an ounce of a mile or meter of a mile in my shoes of the way they treated me to understand what it was like to be in my shoes. I will look at it as a human misunderstanding and human mistake but because of their neglect at covid-19 as they want to call the excuse of lack of employees and a truck to come pick up the equipment appliance that they sold me. They no longer want to do business with me to help me get reestablished at my new place. Just remember sometimes the bridge that is burned the person didn't burn it you're the one that has to look in the mirror and know that someday you may have to build a bridge to do business with that person again. Practice what you pre ach look in the mirror and find out who is responsible and who is not start with yourself first. Several days of communication friends going down waiting while they have their life and job to do. Your company has more money than most people get in a lifetime of poverty. Yeah you look for ways to keep hurting people to make sure that your life continues to punish people because you can. There is a statement every dog has his day I just pray to God that God has mercy on you the day that he sends the dog to collect what to do from you as you have done me.

I will never go with this company again. They are Liars and ignorant ( El centro , CA) they have changed my social security number so that i cant get a payoff on my accounts ! They took out over $409.00 from my account with out my Consent. They are rude when you call can you call to make a complaint to the corporate office I never get a response back from the district manager.They put down that they have resolved issues that they have never resolved.They tell you they’re ordering products and when you go to sign the paperwork we’re getting ready to go sign the paperwork they contacted telling you they ordered the wrong product so that you can take the most expensive product but I didn’t fall for it.I do not like speaking to anyone from the El Centro store because of the ignorance and also speaking to us. I need to know if there is any lawsuits open please let me know the name so that I can contact that attorney I’m done with them!!!!!

The original store closed without even telling me! I gave them back their merchandise, after this horrid, despicable, disrespectful, ignorant manager" Tony" at the Abrams rd store in Dallas, which I had previously dalt with in the past, which was the reason why I went to their Buckingham rd store, alsoo in Dallas. This guy who is the manager at the Abrams store is currently harassing, stalking, beating on my door, which scares me ti deayh, being a domestic violence victim in the past!!! It scares me to the core!!! I have contacted Aarons customee service to no avail. I have also wrote a review on line- nothing! I refuse to continue to live under this torment I need help!!!! I returnrd their items to yheir original store, why is he still harassing me!!!!!!!

Sorts of things causing more money I owed.....I did NOT receive paper work stating I was paid in full and that I owned the merchandise with both the leases I’ve had with them....also
They claimed at around one year after paying off the lease that they’ll report to the credit bureaus.....that was a complete lie.

I purchased a new full size bed and sofa from Aarons in Alaska febuary2017 I have never missed a payment only been late a day . but I called them first. My payments were always on time. Played off sofa. I received a call twice in October 18 I called to find out what was going o mgr. Said I was late and missed sept payment. I told him sept. Was paid and so was Oct. Paid early. He got mad and raised his voice. I called corporate mgr. Got mad. I talked to district mgr. He defended store mgr.I showed my bank statement to mgr. He then said I missed July I paid two payments in July. Enough he shut up. Will never deal with them again.

I received a letter last year stating that I was part of a class action suit against Aaron's. The letter said that I didn't have to do anything. I have not heard anything since. Aaron's still owes me for a living room set that was returned to them and they refused to honor their policy of allowing me to choose something of equal value according to what I had paid into the set. When the living room set was returned it was still in new condition as most of the sectional chairs had never been used. The set was almost paid for and I was moving out of state and not taking it with me and it would have cost me more to store it so I decided to return it, after being told, and per their written policy that I would not lose what I had paid into the set.

At the Fairness Hearing on March 12, 2018, the Court issued an Order granting final approval to the Aaron's Class Action Settlement. Checks in the amount of approximately $174.61 should be received by Settlement Class members between April 20 and April 30, 2018.

Three years ago we rented a Xbox 360 from portage Indiana Aaron's. Today just 21,2017 I had called Aaron's asking a bout an item when the guy tells me that I have a item in the system as stolen, a item I very well knew I had returned. The store manager told me that he could jot do anything for me not even give me a number to call.

Today is December 31, 2016 and i still HAVE NOT RECEIVED settlement check from the lawsuit that the attorney general won for us. I've had several, by several i mean 12, lease agreements i paid in full to this company and they can't even pay me what's owed to me/us! I was supposed to receive a settlement check from Aaron's December 30, 2015. It is now May 2016 and still have not received anything. I've had 9 different leases with them and have paid everything on time and in full. I just want whats owed to me.

I had 3 post cards mailed to me saying i was to get 800.00 on one 500.00 on another and 300.00 on 3rd. This was back in oct. 2015 i signed n returned em all i registered n filed em online also and here we are in march 8, 2016 and i have not recieved anything as of yet can you pleaseeeee check status and let me know i had over 40 accounts with aarons since 2007 and have paid all my accts on time i just paid my last acct last week if you have any questions please email me, thanks n god bless
