Bauer Recalls 100,000 Children's Hockey Sticks
Toronto, ON: Bauer Canada is recalling roughly 100,000 hockey sticks because they contain excessive amounts of lead.
Lead is extremely toxic for young children, as they can absorb it more easily than adults, placing them at greater risk for adverse health effects such as developmental delays, behaviour modification, and harmful effects to hearing and size.
The recall reportedly affects 13 Nike Bauer junior and youth model sticks sold in Canada between 2004 and 2009. All of the affected sticks were reportedly manufactured in China prior to 2008.
