Chrysler Recalls 25,000 Cars
New York, NY: Chrysler Group announced it is recalling approximately 25,000 Dodge Caliber and Jeep Compass cars in the US and 10,000 cars in other countries. The vehicles are being recalled because part of the gas pedal assembly can fall off, which can cause the pedal to fall out of alignment and become stuck.
Vehicles affected by the recall are the 2007 Dodge Caliber and Jeep Compass. According to money.cnn.com (06/04/10), the company that made the Chrysler gas pedals, CTS Corp., is the same company that made the gas pedals involved in the Toyota recall, although the problems are reportedly unrelated.
The NHTSA investigated the problem following five complaints. Both the Caliber and Compass have a brake override system, which automatically cuts engine power when the brake pedal is pressed. Chrysler has said it does not believe the problem puts customers at risk.
