A $1.45 million settlement has been reached in the lawsuit filed against the city of McKinney, TX regarding an accidental police shooting. The suit was filed by the family of Cathey Jo Howard-Kalimah who was accidentally shot and killed in her home on June 5, 2001 by Officer Joyce VanDertuin. Howard-Kalimah was mistaken for an intruder when she was shot, and the suit charged the police with using excessive force and violating her constitutional rights. (Aug-13-03) [PLANO STAR COURIER]
