Whole Foods Over Charging Department of Consumer Affairs NYC Reports
New York, NY: Whole Foods may be engaged in consumer fraud according to The New York City Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA). The DCA recently conducted an investigation into the high-end grocery chain, in which its investigators found that Wholefoods routinely overcharged customers for pre-packaged products, including meats, dairy and baked goods.
According to the investigator' report, all 80 products tested at 8 different stores open in New York City at the time of the investigation had items with mislabeled weights which made the products more expensive. Over pricing ranged from 80 cents for pecan panko to $14.84 for a package of coconut shrimp, to a vegetable platter priced at $20 per package, overpriced by $6.15.
According to the department, Wholefoods is facing potentially thousands of violations. The fine for the first violation could be as much as $950 and up to $1,700 for further violations.
