On July 9, 2002, sixteen year old Marilene Bacani was struck by a car while crossing a marked crosswalk. The state and the driver of the car that killed the high school student have agreed to an $800,000 wrongful death settlement. Since the accident, the state installed a pedestrian activated traffic light, and the area was designated as a school zone, reducing the speed to 35 mph. (Jun-03-05)
