Dart Container Corp.
The State of Kentucky has settled with Dart Container Corp. in regards to an environmental lawsuit. The case, which was brought against the company in 1999, was in response to Dart Corp.'s dumping of pollutants from a foam and plastic producing facility into the Green River. Although the company officially denies any wrong doing, it had previously paid the Environmental and Public Protection Agency $5 000 and agreed to stop dumping the pollutants in that fashion. The settlement with the state will cost Dart Container Corp. $325 000. Although they won the settlement, the Attorney General of Kentucky, Greg Stumbo, was unsatisfied with the penalty for the company, calling it "a slap on the wrist", and called for greater attention to environmental issues on the part of his office.
