Harmful Drugs and Defective Medical Devices

Each day consumers and health authorities blame prescription drugs for negative side effects. While many of these drugs are recalled and taken off the market, other drugs stay on the market until hundreds, even thousands of people have suffered or died.

Consumers also complain that medical devices, while designed to help, can cause additional irreversible injuries. Defective medical devices can include knee replacements, dialysis machines, defibrillators, heart valves, stents, and more. A lawyer can evaluate your claim at no cost or obligation.

Dangerous Drugs

bad drugsThe list of dangerous drugs seems to grow each year. Prescription drugs and over-the-counter drugs are responsible for more than 200,000 deaths per year in the United States. Many adverse side effects don't come to light until after a product has been released into the general population.

It has become commonplace for drugs to be recalled after millions of innocent patients have taken the medication they thought would benefit them. FDA approval is no guarantee that a drug is safe, as recent recalls have shown. If you have been harmed by a prescription or over-the-counter drug, you should contact an attorney to have your claim evaluated. Some recent examples of drugs gone bad are:
Avandia: increased risk of heart attack
Celebrex: increased blood clots leading to stroke
Chantix: linked to suicide
Cipro: can cause tendon rupture
Digitek: recalled due to double-strength tablets
Fosamax: linked to necrosis of the jaw
Gardasil: can cause paralysis
Heparin: contamination linked to allergic reactions
Ortho Evra: can cause blood clots and strokes
Paxil: can cause heart defects in infants

Defective Devices

Medical implants are becoming more and more common in the treatment of such things as heart ailments. However, thousands of people die or suffer as a result of defective medical devices. Even after being approved by the government, devices can cause serious injury or even death.

The types of devices that can cause serious injury include pacemakers, defibrillators, hernia patches, valve implants and joint replacements. Recent defective medical devices include:

Shoulder Pain Pump:
   can cause PAGCL
Medtronic Sprint Fidelis:
   faulty leads
AMO Lens Solution:
   can cause blindness
ReNu Lens Solution:
   eye infections
Hip and Knee Replacement:
   implant failure

Study Reveals Doctors Not Told About Serious Drug Side Effects
Study Reveals Doctors Not Told About Serious Drug Side Effects
April 14, 2013
While drug companies do not have the moral, ethical or legal authority to promote drugs off-label for uses for which they are not indicated, doctors can, and do. That’s because a doctor’s knowledge and training allows the physician to assess the needs of a patient against the monographic and other formulaic information associated with a specific drug, and prescribe the medication for an indication not sanctioned by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or Health Canada. I received the Mirena less than a month ago and have been in terrible pain since. I’ve been to numerous doctor’s appointments, and I cannot get the device removed. They scheduled me for surgery, but the anesthesiologist didn't prep me before so they have to reschedule the surgery - a week from now! I just want the device out.

While taking Lisinopril, I was experiencing swollen feet and legs; severe cramping, often over my whole body; swollen eyes, nose, face; itching and red welts on face and just recently severe angioedema. I discussed symptoms with my doctor but she thought it might have been another med; never once talked to me about the Lisinopril.

My mother was prescribed Actos for her diabetes. She subsequently passed away from a virulent kidney cancer. Cancer is not and never has been part of my mother's family medical history.

I had surgery involving the use of DaVinci Robot. Instead of being in the hospital 1 day, I was in the hospital 30 days and I almost bled to death, and the hospital had to give me 8 pints of whole blood because I was bleeding internally from the use of the Da Vinci Robot.

I had my prostate removed via use of a Da Vinci Robot. The procedure was supposed to be a one night stay and go home in the morning. I ended staying almost a month in the hospital. The Da Vinci Robot had cut some blood vessels and I was slowly bleeding to death. During my stay I almost died and the nurse called the blue squad to revive me and they ended up giving me 5 pints of blood.

5 days on this drug (prescribed 10 days) and the muscle spasms down my legs and arm were extreme. I stopped taking it and spent yesterday with the spasms. Today so far so good without spasms, so I spent the day researching what this drug was and found tons of problems, scared me to death to think that there may yet be long term implications from it 6 months or a year afterwards and that was getting off light. I was prescribed it when I woke up during the night with my breast inflammed and a lump inside. The doctor said it was probably a cyst, tried to drain it with nothing coming out. The inflammation is now gone, the lump is still there and now there are consiquences from the drug, some possibly to come. The doctor took a full day to even call me back, then had the nerve to ask if I'd been doing anything to cause it. I couldn't even get out of bed because of the spasms. I can't believe Walmart didn't even have the black box warning on the sheets printed when on the net this was passed into law. Had I any idea what this might do to me I'd never have taken it. Beware of Cipro and don't take it unless you're on deaths door anyway with no other choice.

I'm highly sensitive to medication. I found 3 hydrocodone pills in my Ibuprofen 600mg that was filled by Rite Aid. I didn't take the medication. But I would like to know what can be done to prevent this from happening again. Not once did they ask if I was okay. The call back that I recieved asked if the store has done what they were suppose to. I don't know what they were suppose to do.
