Durom Cup Hip Device Sales Halted
Doctors Complained About Device for Months
The largest maker of orthopaedic devices in the United States, Zimmer Holdings, announced that it is halting sales of an artificial hip component, based on complaints from physicians. For it's part, Zimmer has said that the failure of the device is due to lack of experience on the part of the surgeon, with implanting this particular device.
The device, the Durom Cup, was initially made available in 2006, and since then has been implanted in more than 12,000 patients. However recently, doctors have been complaining that the device is failing at a very high rate.
