So concerned is the US government, that the House of Representatives is set to review a potential law to protect consumers - Tim Fagan's Law.Tim Fagan is an American boy who underwent a liver transplant. However, the essential prescription medications he needed, and that were purchased through a local pharmacy, were found to be counterfeit. He nearly died.
According to experts within the industry, the fake drugs can look identical to the original ones, and if they make their way into pharmacies, pharmacists can't tell the difference. Estimates by The World Health suggest that 1 in 3 drugs on the global market is fake. According to media reports, some fake drugs have been found to contain boric acid, heavy metals, floor wax, and road paint, all dangerous to human health.
