Five Dead, 56 Injured in TACA Airlines Crash
On Friday, May 30 at least five people were killed, and 65 were taken to hospital as a result of a plane crash in Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras. American and Canadian citizens were among the passengers on board.
The plane, owned and operated by Grupo Taca Airlines, was an Airbus A-320 carrying 136 passengers and crew. It took from Los Angeles Airport en route to San Salvador then Tegucigalpa.
The crash occurred when the plane skidded off the runway during an attempted landing, and down a 20 meter embankment onto a busy road where it broke into three pieces. Six cars were also struck by the plane. Many passengers inhaled smoke from the ensuing fire.
