Vinyl Baby Bibs

Baby bibs imported from China for Toys "R" Us by Hamco Baby Products have been found to contain high levels of lead. Tests from the Center for Environmental Health discovered the inexpensive vinyl baby bibs contain lead levels three times as high as the level allowed in paint. The bibs have Disney Winnie the Pooh characters, sports gear, or flowers printed on them. The store brand bibs marketed as "Koala Baby" and "Especially for Baby."

Toys "R" Us tested of the bibs in May 2007 and note that the bibs "were found to be in compliance with safety standards for lead levels." The Consumer Product Safety Commission recently issued a consumer safety alert of baby bibs with cracked or peeling vinyl surfaces. The agency warned of a potential risk of lead exposure to infants from those products.
