Lipitor Diabetes Lawsuit Canada
Were you looking for Lipitor Diabetes Lawsuits Mounting lawsuits?
Lawyers are investigating a possible Lipitor lawsuit in Canada following the release of studies suggesting that Lipitor side effects could include an increased risk of diabetes. Lipitor lawsuits have been filed in the US and attorneys are now looking into the possibility of filing personal injury lawsuits in Canada, alleging Pfizer, maker of Lipitor (known generically as atorvastatin) failed to adequately warn consumers about the risk of developing diabetes.
Lipitor is in a class of drugs called statins, which are used to treat cholesterol problems by lowering blood levels of low-density lipoprotein. Studies, including a study conducted in Canada, suggest an increased risk of diabetes in people who take statins. Furthermore, that risk might be even more greatly increased in the high potency statins.
A Canadian study, published in BMJ (5/23/13) found that higher potency statins such as atorvastatin (Lipitor) and simvastatin (Zocor) might be linked to an increased risk of new onset diabetes, when compared to other statins.
Lipitor lawsuits have been filed in the US, alleging patients were harmed by the use of Lipitor. In February 2014, 56 lawsuits alleging Lipitor was linked to type II diabetes were consolidated in South Carolina federal court, according to Law360. The lawsuits allege patients were not properly warned about the risk of developing diabetes while taking Lipitor even though, plaintiffs argue, Pfizer knew or should have known about a link between Lipitor and type II diabetes in 1996. The plaintiffs say had they known about the risks associated with Lipitor, they would not have taken it.
Attorneys are investigating possible Lipitor lawsuits in Canada because of the possibility that Canadian patients were exposed to the same risk of developing diabetes while taking Lipitor.
