Listeria-tainted Lettuce Recalled in 19 States, Canada
Washington, DC: AListeria-tained lettuce recall that originated in California has grown to include 19 states and Canada. The voluntary recall comes from True Leaf Farms in Salinas, and began with just 90 cartons of Romaine lettuce shipped to an Oregon food service, which in turn shipped the lettuce to Washington and Idaho.
According to a report on CBSnews.com those 90 cartons went to retail outlets. The company has now recalled 33,000 pounds of lettuce, following checks by federal health officials which identified Listeria in a sample from one bag.
The chopped, bagged lettuce has a use by date of Sept 29. The bag and box code is B256-46438-8. States affected by the recall include Alaska, Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Vermont.
The source of the Listeria has not yet been identified.
This notice follows on from the current Listeriosis outbreak involving tainted cantaloupe from a Colorado farm, which has so far resulted in at least 72 illnesses, including up to 16 deaths, in 18 states.
