Dr. Uzoma Nwachukwu
This is a settlement for the Medical Malpractice lawsuit.
Six year old Johnathon Elder was brought to Perry County Memorial Hospital in February 1999 suffering from meningococcemia, a potentially fatal bacterial infection that requires urgent treatment. Dr. Uzoma Nwachukwu, a Nigerian born physician who was working for PhyAmerica, failed to properly treat Elder and he died from septic shock the next day. Elder's parents filed a lawsuit against Nwachukwu for medical malpractice and negligence in failing to recognize the seriousness of the child's infection. The insurance carrier representing Dr. Nwachukwu agreed to a $900,000 wrongful death and medical malpractice settlement. (Jul-06-05)
