Pokémon USA Announces Recall of nearly 10,000 Pokémon Plush Toys
On July 8th, 2005 Pokémon USA announced the recall for about 9,200 Pokémon Plush Toys due to reports that the stuffing of the toys may contain broken sewing needle tips which pose a puncture hazard. No injuries have been reported to the company or the Federal Government.
The recall involves 10 "Pokédoll" plush toy characters including Pikachu, Minun, Plusle, Skitty, Evee, Munchlax, Mew, and Ho-Oh. Pikachu comes in a 12-inch and a 6-inch tall version. All of the other characters are approximately 6-inches tall. They have a sewn-in label that reads: "Pokémon Center ©2005 Pokémon /Nintendo /Creatures/ GAME FREAK" on one side and "2005 MADE IN CHINA" on the other.
The Pokémon Plush Toys, manufactured in China, were sold at Nintendo World, located at 10 Rockefeller Plaza, New York City, and via the firm's Web site from April 2005 through June 2005 for between $8 and $20. The PokéDoll plush toys were also given away as promotions by Nintendo of America Inc. at the E3 Conference in Los Angeles in May 2005.
Parents should take these toys away from their children immediately and contact Pokémon USA for a free replacement.
