Radio Flyer Announces Recall of 38,000 "Toddler Walker Wagons"
On July 26,. 2005 Radio Flyer Inc. of Chicago, Illinois announced a recall of about 38,000 "Toddler Walker Wagons" after receiving reports that certain parts of the wagons can break off, posing a choking or aspiration hazard to children.
Specifically, the wagon wheels are equipped with "clickers," small pieces of plastic that make a motor like sound as the wheel turns, much like children used to place trading cards against the spokes of bicycles themselves for a similar effect. Radio Flyer has received eleven reports of the tips of these plastic clickers breaking off, producing pieces that can be a choking/aspiration hazard in young children. The company states that no injuries have been reported and that this is a voluntary recall.
The recalled wooden Walker Wagon has a push handle and removable wooden stake sides. It is 22-inches long, 12-inches wide and 16 ½-inches high at the top of the handle. The Walker Wagon body is red and has the name "Radio Flyer" in white lettering on each side. The recalled Walker Wagons have black plastic clickers that make a clicking sound when the plastic wheels turn. The clickers are located between the rear wheels and the wagon. The Walker Wagon is intended for children between 1 to 4 years old. Please note that the Walker Wagons with clear plastic clickers are not included in this recall.
Manufactured in China, these walker wagons for young children were sold between August 2003 through May 2004 for about $80 each. They were sold throughout the US by retailers, web sites and discount department stores, among other outlets.
The manufacturer states that if you own one of the recalled products, that the Walkers should be taken from the children immediately and contact Radio Flyer for free replacement clickers.
