Reports of Scombroid Poisoning Prompt Tuna Steak Recall
Northcoast Seafood of Massachusetts is recalling fresh tuna steaks that were sold at Big Y Stores, Star Market, and Shaw's, all in New England, because the tuna steaks could have elevated histamine levels. Three people have been reported ill so far.
The affected fish products were sold between June 20 and June 24. The recall reportedly does not affect any other fish or seafood sold by Northcoast
Elevated histamine levels can result in scombroid poisoning, symptoms of which typically appear within minutes of consuming the affected food, and include: tingling or burning sensation in the mouth; hives and itching skin; facial or upper body rash ; nausea; vomiting; and diarrhea.
