Consumer Fraud Class Action Filed against Skechers Shape-up Shoes

San Diego, CA: A consumer fraud lawsuit seeking class action status has been filed against Skechers, the makers of "Shape-Up" or "Tone-Ups" workout shoes, alleging that the shoes have caused injury to at least 37 people.

Injuries reportedly range from torn cartilage to hip fractures. In the case of Lisa Baseet, from San Diego, after slightly twisting her ankle twice she suffered a serious injury, apparently hearing something 'snap,' and discovered that she had torn the ligaments and tendons in her ankle.

Commercials for the shoes claim that "Shape-up" shoes are themselves a workout, and go so far as to state "With Shape-ups, you can finally get in shape without going to the gym." The shoes have a rolling bottom, part of a patented design, which effectively changes the way a person walks.

The lawsuit is claiming negligence and fraud, and all customers in the suit cited serious injuries.

Fractured right wrist in two places. Chipped front left tooth which required bonding. Missed 2 weeks of work since I am right handed.
