St. Clair County Social Workers

Social workers had removed Victoria Monette from her mothers home two times, but on November 22nd 2003, Victoria was still in Barbara Kristin Reid custody. The two year old girl was beaten and burned to death by Reid's boyfriend, Michael Kevin Myers. The child's paternal grandmother and maternal grandfather filed a lawsuit against the social workers alleging they failed to follow state regulations that could have prevented the child's death. Victoria's grandparents were awarded a $550,000 wrongful death settlement. (Apr-25-05) [TIMES DAILY]
