City Electric Co.

The company, based in Orlando, Florida, has agreed to pay the Business Software Alliance, a corporate watchdog group, due to their use of unlicensed software. As well as paying the Alliance $58 744, City Electric Supply Co. also has agreed to erase the illegal programs and buy new ones. This is one of the three Florida companies targeted by the Business Software Alliance for their use of pirated software. The other two are Southeast Frozen Foods Co., which paid $153 500 and TV Interactive, which paid $53 500. They also purchased new software. According to the Alliance, the software industry lost $1.8 billion in 2001 due to piracy and unlicensed use. The group offers a website that companies can use to check if any illegal programs are being used in the workplace. (June-11-02) [ORLANDO BUSINESS JOURNAL]
