Toxic Chewing Gum

An flavoring agent in chewing gum, vinyl acetate, has been linked to cancer in lab rats.

Already labeled a "potentially high hazard substance" by Health Canada, vinyl acetate is also used to produce perfumes, deodorizers, paints and sealants.

"The problem with cancer-causing things is we don't always know that there is a safe dose. Certainly, less is better," says Dr. Kapil Khatter, an adviser with Enivironmental Defence.
