Tylenol Recall Expanded to Other Over-the-Counter Products
Washington, DC: An earlier recall of
Tylenol issued by Johnson & Johnson has been expanded today to include some batches of Tylenol caplets, geltabs, arthritis treatments, rapid release, and extended relief Tylenol, as well as Motrin IB, regular and extra strength Rolaids antacids, Benadryl allergy tablets, St. Joseph aspirin, and Simply Sleep caplets.
The latest recall applies to products sold in the Americas, the United Arab Emirates, and Fiji.
The earlier recall, issued on December 29th, 2009, was prompted by consumer reports of "of an unusual moldy, musty, or mildew-like odor that was associated with nausea, stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea." This uncharacteristic smell is caused by the presence of trace amounts of a chemical called 2,4,6-tribromoanisole. The source of 2,4,6-tribromoanisole is believed to be the breakdown of a chemical used to treat wooden pallets that transport and store packaging materials.
