LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION
Walgreen Co.
The Drug Enforcement Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and others were investigating the retail drugstore chain for allegedly breaking federal laws by failing to monitor sales of cold medicines used to make methamphetamine. A Denton Walgreen store sold more than 53,000 tablets in one day to one person. New legislation requires stores to sell cold medicines behind the pharmacy counter and requires consumers to show a photo ID and sign a log. They are limited to 7.5 grams, or about 250 30-milligram pills, in a 30-day period. Computer tracking will prevent customers from exceeding the limit by shopping at multiple stores. Walgreen has agreed to pay a $1.3 million settlement. (Jul-29-05)
