The suit contends that between 1971 and 1994, Daniel Oney was employed by the Kansas City Southern Railway Company (KCSR) and worked in Jefferson County. During his tenure with the firm, Oney was allegedly exposed to asbestos and diesel fuel exhaust, which the suit claims caused him to develop lung cancer.
The lawsuit claims that the company knew about the potential consequences of asbestos exposure, but still caused its employees to be exposed. Robert Oney seeks compensation for past and future medical expenses, mental anguish and lost wages, among others, according to the suit.
In addition to lung cancer, exposure to asbestos has been proven to cause asbestosis and malignant mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer.
