Avelox Side Effects Include Tendinitis

Bethesda, MDWhile it is used to treat a number of infections such as pneumonia and bronchitis, Avelox side effects can potentially be dangerous to patients and lead to the development of tendinitis or even tendon rupture, according to the National Center for Biotechnology Information.

Typically, the drug comes as a tablet that can be taken orally either with or without food for up to three weeks at a time.

However, the side effects of the drug, including tendinitis and tendon rupture, can be extremely painful. These consequences can occur in people of all ages, but they are reportedly most common in those over the age of 60, according to the Web site.

Some of the body parts that can be affected with tendinitis or potential rupture include the hand, shoulder and Achilles tendon. Other less serious side effects that can result from Avelox use include nausea, stomach pain, heartburn, headache and dryness of the mouth, the center says.

According to WebMD, patients taking Avelox are advised to stop exercising and seek medical attention if they experience pain or swelling in their joints, muscles or tendons.
