Bus Accident Injures 21 Passengers

. By
Mount Gretna, PAEarly Saturday morning a bus crash on the Pennsylvania Turnpike injured 21 of 25 passengers when the driver of the Greyhound bus lost control. One woman was freed by rescue crews after being trapped inside the wreckage and 14 people were sent to hospital.

The westbound bus, which was headed for St. Louis from New York City, ended up flipped over on its side and facing the wrong way on the interstate highway after hitting an embankment. The bus accident happened in a rural area about a mile east of the Lebanon-Lancaster exit.

Apparently the front of the bus hit a concrete barrier, the left rear side hit the barrier and then the bus careened over the travel lanes. According to state police, the 24-year-old bus driver lost control of the vehicle while traveling in the passing lane. The driver’s safety record has not been mentioned. None of the passengers needed to be air-lifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon, Hershey Medical Center, and Lancaster General Hospital and at least 12 had already been released.

According to Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety, at least 30 people have been killed and more than 300 injured in tour bus accidents this year.
