Commuter Bus Crash Kills One, Injures 12

A commuter bus accident in Maryland has left one person dead and several others injured. The crash occurred Wednesday afternoon, after the bus fell 45 feet off a skyramp of the Washington beltway, landing on Interstate 270 directly below.

According to reports on CBS News.com passengers on the bus included parents and children. Details regarding the injured have not been released, however Montgomery County Fire Assistant Chief Scott Graham told CBS Radio News that two passengers have critical, life-threatening injuries, another two people have critical non-life threatening injuries and a further eight people have minor injuries. All the injured are being transported to Suburban Hospital in Bethesda.

Four people who were trapped in the bus were eventually extricated by crews dispatched from the Montgomery County fire department. Reports indicate a total of 26 passengers were on board the bus at the time it crashed.

The cause of the crash has not been made public, and may not be known at this time. The bus involved belonged to Pennsylvania-based Wolf's Bus Lines.
