$417 Jury Verdict Tossed in California J&J Ovarian Cancer Lawsuit

. By
Los Angeles, CAAnother multi-million dollar jury verdict awarded to a woman who alleged she developed ovarian cancer from using Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder has been tossed by a California Judge.

The ruling, by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Maren Nelson, reverses the $417 million verdict against J&J which was awarded to California resident Eva Echeverria in August 2017.

Echeverria was awarded $70 million in compensatory damages and $347 million in punitive damages on claims that J&J failed to adequately warn consumers about the cancer risks of its talc-based products.
According to Judge Nelson, during the trial in August both sides failed to provide sufficient evidence and their arguments contained errors.

Attorneys for Echeverria said they plan to file an appeal immediately.

Currently, J&J states that there are some 4,800 pending lawsuits all alleging related claims of cancer stemming from the use of its talc-powder products. Those cases are being heard in California and Missouri.

Last week, a $72 million talc powder jury verdict against J&J talc powder was thrown out by a Missouri appellate court.
