Four women in Canada have filed a class action lawsuit against Pfizer Canada and Pfizer Inc. seeking relief of general damages for the sum of $500,000,000. The plaintiffs have all been long-term users of Depo-Provera, an injectable method of birth control, and they have all been diagnosed with bone mass density (BMS) problems including fractures, hip and spine problems, osteoporosis and other low bone density ailments, all of which have been attributed to the use of Depo Provera.
Depo Provera was introduced to the Canadian market in 1997 after having been rejected by Health Canada several years earlier. Pfizer, the drug manufacturer of Depo Provera, issued a black box warning in the U.S. on November 17th, 2004 and a warning in Canada on June 30, 2005, at the same time continuing to heavily market the drug as safe, stating that it "has been used by millions of women around the world for decades."
According to the [FDA], "Women who use Depo Provera 104 may lose significant bone marrow density. Bone loss is greater with increasing duration of use and may not be completely reversible." It goes on to say that "It is unknown if use of depo-subQ provera 104 during adolescence or early adulthood, a critical period of bone accretion, will reduce peak bone mass and increase the risk for osteoporotic fracture in later life."
Maybe after a few decades?
Although the makers of Depo Provera agree that bone mineral density loss is "an important concern", it argues that the FDA's black box warning puts "politics before science in its handling of reproductive health products and the Bush administration's track record of attacks on family planning cannot help but raise questions about the reasons FDA chose to apply the "black box" warning to [Depo Provera].
Try telling that to countless women who are now suffering from bone density injuries.

I have been DX. with a meningioma, and suffer from severe depression, headaches nausea, vomiting and anxiety. I am a registered nurse that had to stop working two years ago because I was suffering from chronic fatigue and couldn't focus. I have trouble remembering how to spell simple words and do simple math problems. I don't recommend this medication, it didn't help with the endomitriosis anyway. I HAD A TAHBSO IN THE END.

I came across these comments, actually trying to find an attorney, online.
I lost my government career over all of my medical issues, that we all experience after getting depo.
Best to all of us! So terrible.

I am a nervous wreck in the winter months and afraid to go outside when there is ice on the ground or it looks slippery on the roads. I hope that I don't break anymore bones in this lifetime. I have scars on my wrists both inside and outside.
The top of my wrist has a 2 inch scar and my hand has two scars that look like holes and both are very noticeable. These scars were the result of the surgery needed when my wrist was not healing after two weeks with a cast on. Therefore a fixator to keep my wrist from moving was inserted in the hand and wrist for 6 weeks until the wrist bones were repaired.
The second time I broke my wrist there is scarring that looks like a long zipper. This was another surgery the surgeon needed to do to place hardware in the wrist bone and that procedure was a permanent placement.
I broke my hip bone, the surgeon told me I was too young to do a hip replacement so he did a hip restoration instead. He couldn't believe the hip was so crushed from a fall that normally wouldn't leave a person with a broken hip.
I have that many scars it is embarrassing for me because I am an esthetician and when I do my services I know clients are wondering how they happened or are probably thinking I might have tried to commit suicide. I'm not paranoid too bad with that but it often crosses my mind.
So, now what else is to come when I am much older. I don't even want to go there with that. I am a part of the class action lawsuit in Canada and wonder will this ever be settled in this lifetime. It's 10 years now and still not much headway. I also wonder if most of the settlement from Pfizer, if the lawyers do win, will actually go to the affected women of depo prover or when the lawyers take their percentage will that leave us with peanuts. Anyway time will tell. I also think about if this class action lawsuit is settled are we going to feel even more hardship to prove that we were affected by the Depo Provera. Are we going to go through a trial or what? I don't know if others in this class action lawsuit feel the same as I do. I would like to hear your comments about the thoughts I am having and feel free to share your opinion. In other words will we have to fight to get our settlements or is it going to be stress free. I am positive in all aspects of my life but saw these comments and started to write my thoughts on the outcome. Example Will the lawyers ask questions like ' well what were you doing when you broke your hip etc. Just my thoughts...............

The only "survey" I could find of 9600 women showed 6 were gluten allergic. I believe this number is much higher and needs to be addressed. Please send me a message if you know of someone who is affected in this way by the shot.
My family thanks you.

My 20yr old daughter has been on the depo shot for a few years.A little over a week ago, she had a large stroke. We were also told that they saw mini strokes also in her MRI and CAT scans. This shouldn't happen to anyone, much less a 20yr old. Discourage anyone who uses depo and have them get informed, please. It may save their life.

I remember they never gave me a choice if I wanted to use the birth control pills over a shot.
I was on it all of a year. I then stopped the depo shot altogether.
Five years later, I had my first surgery due to endometriosis. I have cysts now that play jokes with me every month. Deciding if I'm going to be in pain that month or not.
I've been told that I have a 70-90% chance of ever having a child of my own, which means never!
Almost 12 years later, a diagnostic was done to my system that showed that due to that shot I have gained weight, grew facial hair, have cysts every month and suffer from endometriosis all because of that shot. They gave me MORE in that shot than they would give someone in just a few years time!
I would love to sue the company responsible for my pain and anguish and put the company to shame for destroying women's bodies!
NEVER EVER take this shot!

My very first unusual problem happened in 2010 when I stood up from a chair and suddenly my ankle fractured for no apparent reason.
In 2013 I tripped and broke my fall with my hand and thus severely fracturing my wrist which required surgery to install 6 pins and a plate to hold my wrist together.
In 2014 I took a simple slip on my butt that resulted in a rib fracture which caused bleeding of the lung and fluid in the lung. I am presently recuperating after a week stay in the hospital. The doctors said my bone fractures resemble that of an 80 year old women. I have scheduled a bone density test to determine the amount of harm Depo has actually caused my bones.
I addition to my bone problems, I have become allergic to a salve that I have used for many years to treat minor burns. Using this salve has caused a rash all over my body with an uncontrollable itch. I am presently treating this rash with a strong steroid clobetasol protionate cream .05% which appears to be helping.
Also, my doctor has informed me I have contracted severe eczema.
As I find solutions to my medical issues I will post to the web so others may possibly benefit from my treatment. Has anyone known of a successful claim against Pfizer for the harm they have caused thousands of women, many of whom do not even know Pfizer is the culprit.

He did a laparscopy and removed the endometriosis that was tying off my bowell. It was ready to explode. A few weeks later, I started to bleed again. The new Dr. gave me a short blast of progesterone and that stopped it. With my very next period, all of my original symptoms were back.
I spent my life on one birth control or another and they are all equally garbage. I threw them all away around 2003. I refused to take any more. I thought to myself, something will burst and then they will have to give me a hysterectomy and stop all of this.
I have spent almost my entire adult life sick, depressed, too happy, hormone issues, crying, acne, migraines, diarrhea, sore throats, it was as if my body was allergic to the entire menstruation process.
In 2005 I met a doctor who promised she would give me a hysterectomy if I would spend 6 months on Lupron Depot. six months turned into 12 because it did not work the first time. I was so sick from these shots. My body couldn't even regulate its own temperature. I was wearing three layers of clothes in July in the middle of a lake. Everyone else, was swimming. I still have hot flashes and temperature issues.
In 2006, I got my hysterectomy and that was supposed to solve everything. During the hysterectomy, they discovered my appendix was ready to burst so they did an appendectomy as well. They performed a hysterectomy, appendectomy, lasic excision of endometriosis, old adhesions, and fibroid tissue and they did a Cystoscopy to see if I had IC, which of course, I now have.
I too cracked a tooth a couple years ago and had to get a crown. It was simply from grinding my teeth at night.
It's 2014 and I still have Endometriosis, Hypothyroidism, Osteopenia, Intersticial Cystitus, Celiac Disease and everyday things seem to get worse.
I have terrible food intolerances and my allergies are getting worse every year. I never had them before.
Right now I weight 113 lbs. I am usually around 120 lbs. Most of my diseases have specific diets and they have taken a great deal of my food away. I feel like I am starving to death.
The makers of both Depo Provera and Lupron Depo need to be held responsible for their toxic miracle drugs. These pharmasutical companies get away with murdering people every day and no one seems to care.
In a perfect world, our government themselves would take responsibility for this. They are the ones allowing this stuff on the street. We die so they can get rich. God Bless America.

I was a depo provera user for 4 years using it to treat uterine fibroids. It worked like a charm. However, when I quit in March 2013 my appetite went with it! I have lost a dramatic amount of weight.
I am looking to start a class action lawsuit and need women in the New york east coast area. Please contact me for more info.
