One of the most frequently reported and yet most commonly rejected injuries is back pain. Due to the number of individuals claiming this particular condition, Unum and their contemporaries have become extremely scrutinous when it comes to back injuries. The news source states that providers will often find some fault with a claimant's telling of the events that led to their injury, and deny the motion because of it.
Another common injury rejected by major service providers like Unum is pregnancy complications. A third-party claims reviewer from Florida informed SmartMoney that about 25 percent of the contested denials commonly placed on his desk are related to pregnancy, such as post-op rest and C-section complications.
Also at risk are individuals suffering from mental health issues such as stress and PTSD. Insurance providers are allowed to obtain a therapist's notes, and a simple statement like "much improved" can be used as a justification to end payments.
