Manufacturer Continues to Face Legal Challenges over Fixodent Denture Adhesive

Houston, TXManufacturer Proctor and Gamble faces mounting lawsuits from users of Fixodent denture adhesive who claim that the product has led to severe abdominal problems and copper deficiencies.

span itemprop="image" itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/ImageObject" style="display:block">The latest class action suit is being launched by a law firm in Houston that represents a number of clients showing signs of zinc poisoning, a common side effect of Fixodent and similar products containing zinc.

Though zinc is a common mineral found in many foods like meat, shellfish and cereal, an overabundance of the element in one's system can lead to a number of adverse health effects, including nausea, abdominal cramps, violent diarrhea and copper deficiencies, as well as serious neurological disorders and paralysis of the extremities.

The Recommended Daily Allowance for zinc is 11 milligram for men and eight milligrams for women. Typical adhesives like Fixodent or Super Poligrip can contain between 17 and 38 milligrams of zinc per gram of adhesive.

On Febraury 18, Super Poligrip manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) vowed to remove the chemical from all of its denture adhesive products from now on.
