Gender Discrimination Case Dismissed in Alabama

Mobile, ALIn a controversial decision handed down by an Alabama judge, a sexual harassment case brought against the city of Daphne has been dismissed for a lack of evidence, according to Al.com.

span itemprop="image" itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/ImageObject" style="display:block">Official reports from the mayor's office allege that in 2005, Daphne event planner Maria Nicholson was temporarily dismissed from her position for a presumed threat to kill a supervisor and two co-workers in a telephone call to a local councilwoman. Nicholson was required to undergo a 120-day psychiatric evaluation and was transferred to a clerk position at the same salary upon her return to work.

Nicholson claimed that she had been sexually harassed by a city councilman and filed suit against the city for violating her first amendment rights and failing to follow procedure by "demoting" her from her event planner position.

"Just because this case was dismissed does not in any way mean that it didn't happen," wrote Nicholson in an e-mail to the Press-Register. "It happened and I spoke out and told the truth."
